Title: A private of the Royal Marines.
Description: Royal Marines were sometimes nicknamed lobsters on account of their red tunics. They were used to keep order on ships, guard dock installations, prevent mutiny and ensure that sailors remained at their posts during actions. Between 1805 and 1869, Woolwich was the seat of a Division of the Royal Marines. The three other Divisions were at Chatham, Plymouth and Portsmouth.
