Description: Brunel's mighty vessel was depicted on paintings, jewellery, china, coins and textiles. This thriving souvenir industry celebrated the fact that the world's biggest and most technologically advanced ship had been built in Britain. This maple framed, embroidered picture of the 'Great Eastern' shows the ship under sail, with a flag on each of the six masts plus the red ensign. A three-masted steamship can be seen in the left foreground. |
