Description: Population growth and increased economic prosperity in Victorian Britain meant unprecedented demand for imported meat. With the development of refrigeration ships, it became possible to transport frozen meat from the vast farmlands of the southern hemisphere - mutton and lamb from Australia and New Zealand, and beef from Argentina and Uruguay.
