Description: The 'Meteor' and 'Prince of Wales' were built at Ditchburn and Mare's Orchard Yard at Bow Creek in the 1840s. Vessels such as these operated passenger services between Gravesend in Kent and Brunswick Wharf in Blackwall. There were several other London to Gravesend passenger services. The first had been started in 1815 by the Clyde-built paddle steamer 'Marjory' (1814), the first steamship to make its appearance on the Thames.
