Description: The importance of the telegraph link between Europe and the New World was immediately recognised by the public and widely celebrated. This American print for some reason shows firefighters leading the peoples of the world in celebration, and acknowledges the achievements of Benjamin Franklin, pioneer of the use of electricity, Samuel Morse whose Morse Code transmitted the message, Cyrus Field, founder of the New York, Newfoundland and London Electric Telegraph Company and Captain Hudson of the US warship 'Niagara', which had laid the first transatlantic submarine cable in August 1858.
