Description: A view of Greenwich Hospital with the triple-decker 'Dreadnought' being towed to her moorings by a paddle steam tug. In the foreground is a boat on which people are watching the proceedings. People also line the shore as the ship is towed along. The 'Dreadnought' acted as a floating seaman's hospital for many years before the establishment of shore facilities. The vessel depicted is probably the second 'Dreadnought' hospital ship. Built as the 120-gun 'Caledonia' at Plymouth in 1808, to the design of Sir Robert Seppings, she took over from the original 'Dreadnought' on moorings off Greenwich in 1856.
