The Indian summer of the inner London docks: the Grierson Collection

A.R. Grierson photographed hundreds of ships during the heyday of the inner London docks in the early 1960s. Large ocean-going freighters continued to throng the docks, particularly the Royal Docks.

Yet within a decade, all this was to change. The advent of container ships and bulk carriers rendered most of these ships obsolete.
