Title: Deptford Power Station.
Description: Deptford Power Station was a milestone in the history of electricity generation. It was built in 1889 by Sebastian de Ferranti, engineer to the London Electricity Supply Corporation and one of the great pioneers of the use of electricity. It was the first genuine high-pressure power station in the world. This illustration from 1890 shows the original building with its two large chimneys. Stations like Deptford made possible the large-scale generation of electricity, and made it more viable to provide electricity for a city as huge as London.
