Title: Aerial view of Beckton Gas Works.
Description: An aerial view of the Gas, Light and Coke Company's Beckton Gas Works. When it opened in 1870, it was the largest gasworks in Europe. The two huge jetties on the river stood on cast iron columns. They serviced the colliers that brought the huge amounts of coal needed to maintain gas production at the plant.
