They included George I, the scientist Sir Isaac Newton, the architect Sir John Vanbrugh, the poet Alexander Pope, the playwright John Gay, the writers Jonathan Swift and Daniel Defoe, and the bookseller Thomas Guy - who built Guy's Hospital in London.
