| Description: A superb photograph of three P&O liners at Tilbury Docks in June 1966. From left to right they are the 'Orsova' (1954, 29.091 GRT), the 'Orcades' (1948, 28,472 GRT), belonging to the P&O subisdiary Orient Line, and the 'Himalaya' (1949, 27,955 GRT). Such sights would not be possible for much longer. With the decline in long-distance passenger traffic, the days of the great liners would soon be over. A couple of years later, P&O switched its operations to Southampton, and all three liners had been scrapped by the end of 1974. |
