Description: The Norwegian brig 'Atlantic' in Marseille harbour in 1895. Marseille was the busiest port on the Mediterranean coast of France. Józef Korzeniowski, later famous as the writer Joseph Conrad, arrived here from Poland in 1874. Before switching to the British merchant navy in 1878, Korzeniowski sailed from Marseille to the Caribbean and Latin America.
