Description: The foredeck of the Castle Mail Packet Company’s new liner ‘Carisbrook Castle’ (1898, 7626 GRT) in the East India Dock Basin in June 1898. To the left are other Castle Line ships. The Castle Line originally ran from Liverpool, but later started services from London to South Africa. It merged with the Union Line in 1900 to form the Union-Castle Line, which continued to use the East India Docks. The ‘Carisbrook Castle’ remained in service until 1922.
