Description: The erecting shop at the Maudslay, Son and Fields engine works in Lambeth, c. 1863. This had been founded by Henry Maudslay, once of the Woolwich Arsenal. Maudslay, inventor of the slide lathe and other precision machine tools, was one of the greatest mechanical engineers associated with the Industrial Revolution.
