| Description: This view of Limehouse Reach shows small coastal craft and naval vessels on the river. The two vessels in the foreground are at anchor and are probably drying their sails. A frigate is to the right of the picture, with a boat in full sail beyond. Behind the frigate, a windmill can be seen on the shoreline, and to its right, Greenwich Hospital. The Scottish born artist William Anderson was heavily influenced by 17th-century Dutch marine artists. |
