Title: Night-time raid on the Surrey Commercial Docks.
Description: The Surrey Docks were traditionally used as a storage area for huge lengths of timber imported from the Baltic countries. Great logs were floated in the ponds and large warehouses were piled high with wooden planks. During the first night that the docks were bombed in the Second World War, the timber ignited, resulting in a spectacular blaze that raged for days.
