| Description: Launched at Chatham in 1798, the 'Temeraire' was broken up by Messrs Beatson at Rotherhithe in September 1838. She was commanded by Captain Elias Harvey at Trafalgar, where she engaged the 'Redoutable' and 'Fogeux', compelling both to strike their colours. 47 men were killed and 76 wounded out of the crew of 660. Harvey was one of only three men named in the House of Commons vote of thanks in January 1806 (the others being Nelson and Collingwood). |
