| Description: The 'Blackwall frigates' - Indiamen with the single-decked appearance of a frigate - were a type of vessel developed after the East India Company's monopoly of trade with China ended in 1833. Once trade was thrown open to private companies, the East India Company needed faster vessels to compete with its new rivals. |
