| Description: Opened in 1851 as the Woolwich Pleasure Gardens, this was the site of fairs and many other special events. The gardens were a rare open space for those who worked in the nearby Royal Docks. The gardens also became notorious as a haunt of prostitutes and other undesirables. Closed for a time, the gardens reopened in 1890 under their current name. With the docks now gone, the gardens are very peaceful. |
