Description: Stansfeld Estate, Bermondsey in March 1933. The London County Council and the local borough councils continued an extensive programme of slum clearance between the world wars. Solidly-built blocks of flats such a the Stansfeld Estate replaced neglected terraces. Dr John Stansfeld a medical man and local social reformer, founded the Oxford and Bermondsey Boys Club in 1897.
