Title: The Saphir (1897).
Description: The Antwerp-based short sea steamer 'Saphir' (1897), owned by the Societe Anonyme de John Cockerell of Liege. John Cockerell, the son of a Lancashire weaver who emigrated to Belgium, was the first great industrialist on the European continent. The 'Saphir' was in Tilbury Docks at the time of the census in March 1901.
