Title: The Silvertown (1873).
Description: The cable-laying ship 'Silvertown' (1873) belonged to the India Rubber Gutta Percha & Telegraph Works Company. She was built as the 'Hooper' and was the first purpose-built cable layer. She enjoyed a long career, laying cables in Central and South America, Africa and the Atlantic. She was berthed in Tilbury Docks during the census of March 1901.
