Description: The Poor Jews' Temporary Shelter stood in Leman Street. It provided some support to impoverished Jewish emigrants from central and eastern Europe. Some of those who stayed at the Shelter remained in Britain, but most were encouraged to move on to third countries. This illustration appeared in 'Living London' (1901-02), edited by George R Sims.
