| Description: The King William Quadrangle of Greenwich Hospital, with several Greenwich Pensioners as well as women and children. The jackets and tricorn hats were the typical uniform of the Greenwich Pensioners. The pensioner in the foreground wearing the yellow jacket is a so-called 'canary' - the wearing of a yellow jacket was the punishment for drunkeness and other offences against Hospital rules. |
