Title: A Chinese export punch bowl.
Description: This Chinese punch bowl, the interior of which is inscribed 'Success to Mr Barnard's Yard', was part of the brisk trade in painted commemoration porcelain between China and London in the 18th and 19th centuries. The outside of the bowl is painted with line drawings of ships in frame and ready for fitting out. They represent a ketch in frame and a merchant vessel of the mid-18th century. The buildings, scenery and river are Chinese additions to the design. The Barnards were a famous family of shipbuilders who built warships and East Indiamen at their yard in Deptford.
