| Description: This plate, with a moulded gilt rim and relief floral sprays on the border, displays the coat of arms of the East India Company at its centre. By 1824 the Company, which had held the monopoly of trade with the east since 1600, was coming under attack from the supporters of free trade, and its sole trading rights would soon be revoked by the British Parliament. |
