Description: A busy scene at the East India Export Dock. Until the East India Company lost its monopoly of trade to the East in the 1830s, all vessels heading for India and China had to load at the dock. Even after the introduction of free trade, more Company ships used the docks at Blackwall than any other enterprise engaged in the eastern trade.
