Title: The Royal Observatory Greenwich.
Description: Originally called the New Physical Building, this was designed by the Astronomer Royal, William Christie, working with the architect William Crisp. Each of its four wings housed a different branch of the Observatory: magnetic and meteorological work in the north wing, astro-photography in the west, time in the south and the library in the east. The outside is decorated with Doulton terracotta, including the names of twenty-four eminent astronomers and scientific instrument makers, an art-deco carving of the muse Astronomia and a bust of John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal, over the entrance.
