Description: Shipping in the Upper Pool in 1886. The vessels include a paddle steamer and a hay barge. The buildings on the north banks of the Thames include the tower of St Magnus the Martyr, the Cox and Hammond's Quay, Billingsgate Market and the Custom House, built in 1817 to the design of David Laing. The Custom House was partially rebuilt in 1827 after damage caused by subsistance.
