| Description: Lett's Wharf, one of many smaller wharves west of London Bridge. This view looks toward the City, with the dome of St Paul's Cathedral in the background. The piece of equipment seen in the photograph is a loading ramp, used to unload goods from barges at low tide, when they were not level with the wharf edge. The negatives in the W.M. Eagar collection were taken at locations along the River Thames from Lambeth Bridge downstream to Woolwich, the earliest about 1914 and the latest 1934. |
