Description: Robert Rich, the 2nd Earl of Warwick, was one of many prominent English landowners to develop plantations in the Americas. Rich owned Virginian tobacco plantations in the early 17th century, importing enslaved Africans to work his fields. He was a firm advocate of the English colonisation of North America, making a fortune from his Virginian estates.
