| Description: Dick welcomes the environmental improvements that have taken place in the port. The Thames used to be polluted, but is now one of the cleanest rivers in Europe. When he worked in the docks, if a person fell into the water they would be taken to hospital where they would have their stomach pumped out! He does, however, regret the passing of commercial activity on the river. A world of ships, wharves, cranes and warehouses has been replaced with leisure facilities and luxury homes. |
