Dick Desmond - Introduction.

Description: Dick was born in Poplar in 1938. Throughout his working life he had several jobs on the river. In 1953 he started work with Alexander Ship Towage, helping to bring vessels in and out of the port. About 18 months later he became a lighterman. In 1968 he became a docker at the Royal Docks and then Tilbury.
