| Description: The northern (Shadwell) entrance to the Rotherhithe Tunnel in 1925. The Rotherhithe Tunnel had been built by the London County Council in 1904-08 to complete a much-needed link between the port districts on both banks of the Thames. It was accessible to both pedestrians and road vehicles. Like the Blackwall Tunnel, its importance increased as the volume of traffic grew. |
