Description: The consulting room at the TB Dispensary at Steele's Lane in Stepney. TB or tuberculosis was one of the biggest killers in history, and thrived in areas of high poverty such as those surrounding the port. At dispensaries such as the one in Steele's Lane, TB sufferers could obtain some medication. However, there was no cure for the disease until the antibiotic streptomycin was developed in the 1940s.
