| Description: The board room of the Thames Ironworks Company, by the local photographer William Bartier. The Thames Ironworks closed in 1912 after having been the centre of much innovative engineering and shipbuilding in the 19th century. By the early years of the 20th century, the remaining London shipyards were unable to compete with those of Clydeside, Belfast and Tyne and Wear. |
