| Description: This wharf was part of the Carron and Continental Wharf, owned by the Carron Company of Falkirk. This firm had launched the Carron Ironworks in 1760, and made their reputation and fortune through the carronade, a short-barrel, large-calibre naval gun. The company ran shipping services between Grangemouth, London and Glasgow, handling general cargoes. The wharves closed in 1970. The residential Tower Bridge Wharf now occupies the site. |
