Description: The St Katharine Docks were built near the Tower of London and the London Docks, and opened in 1828 after the area was cleared of its previous structures and 11,300 residents had been dispossessed of their homes without compensation. However, the docks were never a financial success and in 1864 the company merged with the London Docks. In 1968, the St Katharine Docks closed after running at a loss. The area has been redeveloped once again, with a hotel, apartments, offices and leisure activities, along with a marina.
