| Description: Operation Torch – the Allied landings in Morocco and Algeria in November 1942 – was the largest amphibious operation in history up to that time. It brought the French North African colonies – which had been loyal to the Vichy regime – under Allied control, and meant the beginning of the end of German and Italian forces fighting in the desert. |
