Title: Workers at the Thames Ironworks.
Description: This photograph shows one of the workshops at the Thames Ironworks. In the foreground of the image, components for a steamship stand on a rack. These fittings were cast from molten pig-iron that was poured into casting moulds. After they had cooled down and hardened, they could be shaped and finished by ironworkers. This method of mass producing fittings and components was highly efficient.
