| Description: The northern entrance shaft to the Woolwich Foot Tunnel in North Woolwich. This was conceived as a back up to the nearby Woolwich Free Ferry, which had operated since 1889. The Foot Tunnel was built by the London Country Council and opened in 1912. It is similar to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, opened ten years earlier. Both remain in use today. |
