Description: A ship launch was always a great occasion and hundreds of spectators would watch the event. This is Wigram and Green's yard at Blackwall on 9 November 1825. Ships were fitted with masts after launch and the Blackwall mast house can be seen in the background. Launching was a precise operation and had to be carefully coordinated with the tide.
