Description: The Royal Navy requisitioned nearly a thousand Thames barges during the war, mainly in preparation for the invasion of Europe. Most became LBVs (Landing Barge Vehicles), and were used to carry vehicles and equipment from ship to shore. In this photograph, taken in June 1946, three LBVs at the Badcock Yard in Cubitt Town are about to be reconverted back into their original roles.
