| Description: These inshore dhows at Lamu are used to sail between the islands of the Lamu archipelago and the plantations and mangrove swamps on the mainland. They connect the ancient settlements on the islands of Lamu, Manda, Pate and Kiwayuu. Mangrove poles (called Boroti) were traditionally exported to the Middle East. The height of the poles regulated the height of the rooms in Arabian houses. |
