Description: The 'Royal George', a 100-gun first-rate, was launched at the Royal Dockyard in Woolwich in 1756. She had taken ten years to build. Keeled over for minor repairs at Spithead in 1782, she suddenly sank with the loss of 900 lives. The full title of this print is 'Sinking of HMS Royal George at Spithead at 9 o'clock a.m. Augt 29th 1782 from an original drawing in the possession of Henry Slight Esqr by whom this print is published 1839'.
