Description: The full title of this etching is 'London Bridge, and tip of tower of Southwark Cathedral, from north bank of River Thames (site of Adelaide House) with workmen under archway'. As a young man William Lionel Wyllie (1851-1931) lived upon the River Thames in a converted floating studio, drawing and painting the river and its vessels. He became justly famous for his art. He went beyond the usual depictions of ships and other craft, choosing also to record unusual details of life on the river.
