| Description: The V1 was called the 'buzz bomb' or 'doodlebug' because of the characteristic buzzing sound of the engine before it cut out and drifted to earth. This period of silence caused considerable fear among the population of London as they waited for the sound of the detonation, not knowing where the rocket was going to strike. |
