Description: The main Tilbury to London road under water during the February 1953 floods. This photograph was taken from a train window. Large sections of railway were under water and Tilbury Riverside Station became inaccessible. Around 300 people drowned during the floods, as well as 11,000 cattle, 9000 sheep, 2400 pigs, 34,000 chicken and 70 horses.
