| Description: As Lieutenant-Governor (second in rank to the Governor) of Greenwich Hospital from 1793, Locker conceived the idea of a naval picture gallery in the Painted Hall. The plan was put into effect by his son, Edward Hawke Locker, in 1823-24.
Locker had a distinguished naval career. He had been a great influence on the young Nelson, who served as a second lieutenant in the 'Lowestoffe' under Locker's command. |
