Title: Scene below decks showing a man having a leg amputated.
Description: This rough sketch shows conditions in the cockpit of a naval vessel during battle. Wounded men are helped into the area and lie injured across the deck. On a table in the centre two sailors restrain a third who is having his leg amputated, without the benefit of anaesthetic. Such measures were the only way in which limbs shattered by cannon shot could be effectively dealt with.
